Software Features and Description

1. — 15" MacBook Pro Retina is compatible with HiDPI modes by default, so ResolutionTab will work out of the box.

2. ResolutionTab is a menu bar app for fast switching between Standard & HiDPI display modes.

3. But when you configure your display in System Preferences, it takes plenty of time to switch from the standard to the HiDPI mode and vice versa.

4. Modern apps and websites should look great on Retina displays, so we have to test them in both standard and ultrahigh resolution modes.

5. ResolutionTab is a minimal app living in the menu bar that toggles your Mac between Retina and non-Retina resolutions in one click.

6. — In all other cases, you have to enable virtual HiDPI modes manually.

7. — 11" MacBook Air is not compatible with HiDPI.

8. The screen is too small, so resolution would drop below the minimum required by OS X.

9. Launch Terminal app located in your /Applications/Utitlities folder.

10. Type sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver DisplayResolutionEnabled -bool YES.

11. HiDPI is activated and ResolutionTab will work properly.

Install ResolutionTab app on your Windows in 4 steps below:


  1. Download an Android emulator for PC:
    Get either Bluestacks or the Nox App >> . We recommend Bluestacks because you can easily find solutions online if you run into problems while using it. Download Bluestacks PC software Here >> .

  2. Install the emulator:
    On your computer, goto the Downloads folder » click to install Bluestacks.exe or Nox.exe » Accept the License Agreements » Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.

  3. Using ResolutionTab on PC [Windows 10/ 11]:
    • Open the Emulator app you installed » goto its search bar and search "ResolutionTab"
    • The search will reveal the ResolutionTab app icon. Open, then click "Install".
    • Once ResolutionTab is downloaded inside the emulator, locate/click the "All apps" icon to access a page containing all your installed applications including ResolutionTab.
    • Now enjoy ResolutionTab on PC.

  • Fixes Mojave for external 4k monitor

    Useful display scaling for external 4k monitors never shows up in MacOS Mojave for my external displayport monitors plugged into my 15" MacBookPro with 'Retina' display. That would leave me with either microscopic user interface elements, or blurry enlarged user interface except for video with looked great. this app fixed Mojave's display scaling problems for me by providing an appropriate HiDPI scaling for 4k. Now content on the 4k monitor is just as sharp and about the same apparent size as the inboard retina display panel. THANK YOU!!!!! to the developer!!

  • DOES NOT WORK! NO SUPPORT FROM DEVELOPER!

    This app does not work at all on my MacBook pro 13”! I want my money back! I know it’s only $2 but it’s the principal. I tried all the tutorials on their website on how to make this work and none of them worked. I even sent their customer support an email about 2 weeks ago and didn’t receive an answer back. I went on their website and it says nothing about compatibility issues with a MacBook Pro 13” only a MacBook Air 11”. Their support website is a joke they only have 3 Frequently Asked Questions listed and no public discussion. Don’t bother with this app, no support, does not work. Apple should revoke their developers license, they are making the App Store look bad.

    I got this app to test some UI work in HiDPI mode and it seems to work flawlessly. The initial setup should probably display the information on enabling HiDPI mode instead of burying it under “More Information…” in the “HiDPI mode not available” dialog, but maybe I missed that info somewhere else. I like the fact that in a multi-monitor setup like mine, one monitor can be set to HiDPI mode while the other one isn’t. Simple, cheap, works great: 5 stars.

  • Worth it!

    I was looking for a program that would allow me to easily/quickly switch between resolutions (mainly 1280x800 and the full 2560x1600 on my haswell 13” MBPr). This does exactly that! Well worth the half-a-coffee I paid for it since you can’t even choose 2560x1600 in the display menu. It puts any external displays in the drop down as well.
