The Met Opera on Demand app offers instant and unlimited streaming of over 700 full-length Metropolitan Opera performances on your iPad, iPhone, HDTV, or connected sound system via Apple TV with AirPlay. Software Features and Description

1. Payment will be charged (after any free trial period, if applicable) to your iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase, at the price listed under "Choose Your Offer" (currently $14.99 US Dollars for a Monthly subscription and $149.99 US Dollars for an Annual subscription.) Depending on your App Store country or region, prices might be listed and payments charged in your local currency, US Dollars, or Euros.

2. Met Opera on Demand offers two auto-renewing subscription types available for purchase through your iTunes Account: Monthly (with a free 7-day trial for first time purchasers) and Annual.

All Met Opera on Demand videos include English subtitles, and many recent HD performances also include subtitles in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish, as well as English Closed Captions (CC.) Subscribers can use AirPlay to watch all videos with the full offering of multi-language subtitles on their TV via Apple TV.

4. Met Opera on Demand delivers instant and unlimited streaming of more than 700 full-length Metropolitan Opera performances on your iPad & iPhone—and on your HDTV or connected sound system as well via Apple TV with AirPlay.

5. Now you can sign-up for the 7-day Free Trial or purchase a subscription right inside the app for complete and unlimited access to everything available.

6. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription.

7. The Met Opera on Demand iPad/iPhone App requires a Wi-Fi internet connection to stream videos and content availability is subject to change.

8. Your iTunes Account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, and identify the cost of the renewal.

9. The Met Opera on Demand iPad/iPhone app is free to download.

10. Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

11. Subscriptions may be managed by the user and the auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the user’s Account Settings after purchase.

Glad it has free preview

I didn’t sign up but I was able to sample several operas via free preview and I must say that the app requires a LOT of work. Operas say HD but when streaming they are definitely not HD. The screenshot of the operas are stunning HD but when you play the operas they are nowhere near the same quality. And I’m not talking about the operas from the 70’s and 80’s and 90’s, of course those aren’t HD. I’m talking about the operas that were live this year and the past several years that actually say HD on them. Aida was blurry and the screen froze while you could still hear the audio. Definitely not worth the 15 dollar a month price tag or 150 dollar a year price tag. This app, for what it offers, should be priced much lower. Netflix has so many more titles and tv shows and they charge much less. This is just pure greed to charge so much for opera. Especially when the quality is just not there.

Every content owner wants to provide their own streaming service to cut out the middle man and collect all the profits, but delivering first-class software and infrastructure presents different challenges than content production. This app is not bad — they’ve fixed a number of issues I see in earlier reviews over the five years this app has been out. It would still be nice to use AirPlay on free previews (and return to them after leaving the app), and browse by artist. Also, like some other reviewers mention the sound quality could be better. I suspect it is being compressed too much, though the video quality is good.
Please update audio options!

Hi! Great app but please change the Apple TV app audio options so I can play the sound through my HomePod. Whenever I play anything it reroutes through my crappy tv speakers. Thank you!!

I use it while driving, at home on iPhone, laptop and Apple TV. I haven’t had any technical problems, as long as I have a decent signal strength. The annual rate is the best deal. The resume function is excellent and always picks up an audio or video file where I last stopped. Please put “Angels” on, as well as the latest Thais.
