  • Display and download problems

    By bhpowell (Pcmac user)

I was excited to see update 27 for this app, hoping it would fix the bugs of version 23. I was disappointed. As before, you can view individual articles, but not the original magazine layout. The screenshots shown in the Apple Store are outdated; the app doesn't look like that any more. And as before, the app likes to download the articles for an issue multiple times. I contacted GTXCel, to learn if the new behavior was intended. Other than an automated acknowledgement of my question, I've heard nothing. [Original review of version 23] The latest update appears to have removed the option to view the entire magazine in its original form, including advertisements. All that you can view are individual articles. I used to prefer the digital version over print, but I've also had problems with offline viewing (e.g., you _think_ you downloaded an issue for offline reading, but when you try to view it without being on a network, it refuses to show you anything). Too many problems in this app; I'm going back to print.
  • Nothing is free

    By BackBlaster (Pcmac user)

Just because there's no mention of "In-App Purchase" in the description of this app, it doesn't mean there's actually any content for free. This is nothing but pretty cover pages of monthly $5.00 issues, and if you install and then merely linger on a cover page too long or accidentally double-tap while swiping thru the covers, the app will begin downloading a $5 issue. Upon installation, It will ask you if you want the "free" issues and if you say "Yes" it presumes you have given permission for in-app purchases by merely tapping on a cover.
  • Issues do not download

    By WacoRickD (Pcmac user)

Not sure if this is an iOS 8 issue, but since iOS 8 issues don't download. When you try to download an issue, it tries forever and finally comes back with an error message that says "Page not available."
  • Why a standalone app?

    By Retro Fan (Pcmac user)

Integrate this with Newsstand and it would be perfect. Why make users manage as a separate app when it could all be in one place.
