  • Why no updates?

Just spent $36 on a program that has not been updated in years — and looks like it. Disappointed.

  • Why the changes?

    By Schmal07 (Pcmac user)

I have loved this app, but in the newest version they made a few changes that I cannot understand. 1. The search backwards function was removed. Why? Sometimes when I hear someone say a new compound word or a verb with a new prefix that I didn't know, I only catch the end of the word. Searching backwards was helpful. 2. I find that separable prefix verbs are now listed in the conjugation tables incorrectly. The participle of vorstellen is now listed as gevorstellt? Or gemitbringt? Having lived in Germany almost a year now, I have never been surprised by such new participles in conversation. Or is there some new fancy way of editing dictionaries that I don't know about? And since when did verbs like this get conjugated as: mitbringe, mitbringst, etc.? 3. Before, I didn't have to capitalize a German noun when typing it in to look it up. Lazy me, I know, but it was quick, and quick is what a dictionary should be. (There isn't a special section in printed dictionaries for words that are capitalized in the beginning - you just go to the letter) But now, if you don't capitalize correctly in the search bar, the word doesn't show up. It just makes it that much slower. App still gets 3 stars, because it is still incredibly useful.
  • Very good!

This is my second German dictionary and it has not disappointed. It seems to be very complete. The things I like the best: 1) Many examples of word usage in sentences, including many expressions that could be difficult to interpret otherwise. 2) Ability to look up words by typing the LAST part of the word (great for me when I don't quite hear a word correctly). 3) Ability to search the many included example sentences for a particular word (sometimes helpful example sentences are listed coincidentally under other word definitions). 4) Intelligent search that can sometimes finds the correct word even when you misspell the word. The only negatives are fairly minor. You sometimes have to drop off endings of words to find them (not a problem if you know the language at all, but may be harder for beginners. Could be a similarity of all German dictionaries though). Also, you cannot search for and find certain forms of some verbs. The forms are all listed in a drop down conjugation box under the verb, but for some reason you can't find some of them with the search function.
