1. “She is eating an apple.” What does that sentence really mean? What would those words look like if I imagined this image in my mind? Picture the Sentence is an exciting app for the iPAD designed to practice language and auditory processing tasks at the basic sentence level.

2. This app offers three different levels of difficulty so the child can learn how to attend to important elements of a sentence and “picture it,” attaching meaning to the words and eventually forming mental pictures without visual support.

3. A demo link will allow a user with internet access to view a video on YouTube to learn about the features of this app, as well as a link to our other apps in the iTunes store.

4. Developed by Patti Hamaguchi, M.A., CCC-SLP, a noted speech-language pathologist and author of Childhood Speech, Language & Listening Problems: What Every Parent Should Know, as well as books on the treatment of auditory processing disorders.

5. Because these kinds of intensive listening tasks can be challenging for some children, we have incorporated a cute “Pick-a-Door” game, which can be selected at varying intervals so the user can take a break and have a little fun.

6. They work the same, except the lite version allows 3 users only, and targets only the subject + verb + object syntax structures.

One tiny request

I like app and it fits the specific needs of a few of my students. My only request would be to make it possible to manually move onto the the app choices after the sentence is given instead of automatically moving to the three choices. I would like to have the option to have my student repeat the sentence before moving on to finding the corresponding the app. Like a simple button that says "next" or just an arrow. You follow?? Or even making your own sentences so you can tailor the app even more specific to the student.

Speech therapist recommended this. My 3 year old seems to like it and it is good practice for him. But there are problems. Interface exemplifies buggy, lazy coding. Non-universal app. (You'd need to buy it separately again for iPhone.) Pretty limited in content. This is the lite version and should have been a freebie. Ugly, uninspired UI. I'd be willing to pay well for a polished version of this.
Yet Another Awesome App from Hamaguchi!

This app includes clear concise directions and the ability to adjust difficulty level (3 levels), the wait time between responses, what type of visual cues you want, after how many correct responses the game will appear, the type of subjects being used (nouns or pronouns) and sentence type. Progress can be tracked as well. Very versitle tools for a lite version! This app teaches noun, verb, object sentences. Each part of the sentence is associated with a the app. When asked to remember the sentence the student/child has to place the corresponding the app into a the app frame. If they choose incorrectly the the app is returned to its spot. There is no corresponding sound or admonishment for choosing incorrectly. If the child chooses the correct the app, the sentence is repeated and they are told "Good Job!" This lite version is well worth the .99 price tag! The white background helps to keep the student/child focused on the task at hand. The pictures are bright and engaging. This lite version is well worth getting! Highly recommend this app!
Great for expressive and receptive skills--adaptable!

This app is wonderful. I am an SLP who works with preschool and kindergarten special needs students. This app really helps them the app and listen closely to keywords when hearing a sentence. During therapy sessions, I have my students repeat the target sentence after they have selected the corresponding the app to practice memory and expressive language skills. We also play around and talk about what the sentences would be for the other pictures that did not match the prompt for extra practice. The settings offer so much variety--explore and USE them. There are so many ways to use this app that I bought the full version today! Also, Patti Hamaguchi is an excellent speaker with applicable therapy ideas. Thank you!
