Software Features and Description

1. As you progress through the words in the WordFile words can be added to and dropped from the Learning List using the “Add to Learning List” / “Drop from Learning List” button.

2. The Learning List contains a subset of all the words in the WordFile – 10 words by default (although this can be changed by users).

3. Exercises: Words in the learning list should first be Reviewed using the “Review Learning List” option.

4. Once a word is learned (by reviewing the Learning List and completing the Exercises) it is removed from the Learning List and is replaced by another, as yet unlearned word from the WordFile.

5. The number of words in the Learning List can be set by adding or removing words to the Learning List in the “Review Words” feature.

6. The Learning List allows users to concentrate learning a small group of words at any one time.

7. The Learning List: The words are learned based on a Learning List.

8. Once all the exercises have been correctly completed, the word is marked as complete, removed from the Learning List and replaced by a new word.

9. Serious about learning Japanese? Learn 6,400 Japanese words and expressions! Including JLPT Levels 3 & 4 (over 1,200 words).

10. Managing the Learning List: After a new WordFile is loaded the Learning List size is automatically set to 10.

  • nicw little app

    By VegasSlim (Pcmac user)

So far so good for this app. The controls are intuitive and there are plenty of Kanji to work on. I have studied the app before, but it has been several years so this app seems to be very good for review. If you are more advanced, you might be bored with the word/Kanji choices. But if you are looking to review numbers, basic words, etc. this is a good app
  • You'd better know your kanji

    By bebedebroadway (Pcmac user)

The most frustrating thing about this app is there are no furigana to accompany unfamiliar Kanji. Additionally, There's a bit of a disconnect between where they use english, the app, and audio. I've studied the app in Highschool and College, but definitely do not know all of my kanji. This will by somewhat helpful, but not completely. If they add Furigana, it'll be a real gem.
  • Decent, efficient program for non-beginners and fast learners

    By Mep14 (Pcmac user)

I just downloaded the free version and appreciate that the program's third lesson dives straight into a no-frills, lengthy list of useful verbs. Beginning learners of the app who do not have background with kanji might want to find a program where they can first review the meaning of individual kanji, and once getting a good foundation then move on to this program. While I am an advanced Chinese speaker and can understand the kanji used in this app, I have not sufficiently studied hiragana and katakana, and this program is helping me speed through learning them -- without wasting precious time on actually running through kana lists. When you learn a new word, the program will indicate the romaji (English transliteration), or, if you choose, the hiragana/katakana scripts -- but the program will not show you both the romaji and the kana scripts at the same time, which might have been useful for some users. As of the third lesson, I notice there are minor kinks in the app. Some of the lengthier English definitions disappear off the screen because the font is so large, and the words "shi" and "shichi" will sound awfully similar to an untrained, novice ear. All in all, at first glance, this seems to be a good program for fast-learners who already have some background in kanji or Chinese characters, and for learners who do not need lots of embellishments or games when they learn. The program just gives you repetitive, quick, multiple-choice drill exercises on meanings and pronunciations. It's brutally efficient.
