What an amazing game! It's really a turn-based tactics game at its core, but it's got the app style and a good balance of units and levels. I think this is a the app game that I will be playing for a long time, and also really scratches the itch from FF Tactics or Shining Force, without the overarching Role Playing aspects. The game play is really 5 star. I took off one star, however, for two reasons. One is the insufficient explanation of how the game is played. There are a few icons that tell you tidbits about how things work, but without knowing how unit movement is calculated and damage and such things, how firing range is affected when aiming uphill, etc., you can feel pretty lost for a few levels. Combined with that, the first few levels are very limited in scope so you don't get a sense of what the game really is. I actually put this down after 2.5 levels, regretting my purchase. Someone then said you have to get to level 4 before the game makes sense. I got to level 4. And this is one of the best games I have bought. Secondly, they say you have to review to get one of the units? I hate it when they do that. I haven't gotten that far, but it's regrettable. Anyway, unless you are really principled about the rate-for-a-freebie ruse, or really impatient with figuring out mechanics (they make sense over time), this is a must have game.

Note: I'm not rating this for the grenadier since I've already finished it. This game was flat out awesome. the app turn-based fun with exceptional variety with each level. You start with a few potential resources but by the time it's over, you leverage attack helicopters, bombers, destroyers, ferries, artillery, three-levels of tanks, anti-aircraft weapons, even Rambo-like commandos, each with their specialty and way to deal with them. At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I thought this game actually did a good job equating some of the strategy of a real war and the choices one has to make to win. I found myself having to constantly sacrifice less-valuable 'grunts' in order to keep more valuable bazooka-wielding soldiers or snipers alive. Or take a wounded soldier and place him in front of a tank to keep it from advancing while I built enough money to get a bazooka or tank to finish it off. the point being, the game play maps well to the themes of the game. The only downside is how addicting it is. Each level takes some time and it's hard to put down in the middle of a mission (though the game picks up where you left off almost perfectly). Would buy 20 more levels!
It IS a great lil wargame! I LOVE it!

This game is so well done! It has everything you want and none of the stuff you don't want - like waiting endlessly for something to load from the Internet, or unlocks that you have to pay money for. It starts up fast and runs fast. And it looks beautiful! The animations are nicely done and the voices are funny. But you have lots of options to turn these on and off as you wish. Underneath all the bells and whistles is a pretty good tactical war game. The missions are challenging. In skirmish play they have a lot of maps. I find that the AI in basic mode is fairly easy to beat, but that is my only complaint. For the price, this is a very good value!
Excellent Game!! But please make iCloud sync!!

First off, I never write reviews! I have downloaded more than 250 apps and I think I've written one review but this game I had to write a review... This's is an amazing game! I downloaded it when it was on sale for free but I would have gladly paid .99 for it and will for the sequel! Very strategic! It is almost exactly like a game I LOVED many years ago on the Gameboy Advanced called Advanced Wars. Anyways, very addicting awesome fun! Gave it a 4 star rating only because it is a universal app and unless I'm missing something there is no iCloud sync across devices. That is really annoying because I like playing on my iPad but then my missions are not completed on my phone when I'm out and about. Add iCloud capability and I'd immediately up my rating to a 6!!
