What is Mahjong Demon XL? This is a Japanese-style Mahjong game where the objective is to finish four melds and one pair. The game has specific rules regarding Chi, Pon, and Open Kan, and players must pay attention to whether there is a hand when they do 1 and 9 in Chi and Pon. The game also allows for the creation of a hand by paying 1,000 points and doing Reach, but this cannot be done when Chi, Pon, and Open Kan are done. The game also has a concept of Lost Hand, where a hand is waiting but cannot be won off someone else's discard due to the fact that the owner of the hand already threw a winning tile in their own discard.

5. But, self-draw is possible even with Lost Hand.

6. However, there is a hand not approved when Chi, Pon, and Open Kan.

7. If it is a closed hand, high point will be obtained.

Best I’ve seen in a long time

Whilst not the greatest digital version of the app I’ve seen, it’s far and away the best version using Japanese scoring in the American App Store. Not only that but it’s the simple things like actually using the correct Japanese terminology (pon, kan, chi, etc) instead of Chinese terms (pung, kong, chow, etc) which makes a real difference when playing. I would like to see an English version of the rules and scoring but if you already understand this is a good app for you.

Big problem. The game doesnt allow me to "pon" ... The other 3 players go quickly and dont stop till my turn. No point in playing if can't pon or chi.

I recently learnt Riichi/Japanese the app because there aren't any decent Chinese or Taiwanese the app apps in the ipad or iphone app stores. So as a newcomer to Riichi, I can't judge accurately on the skill of the ai, but the interface of this app is well designed. I have both the Xl ipad and smaller iphone version and I prefer the ipad version as you can see your opponents' discards easily.
