Software Features and Description

1. A real time Spectrum Analyser, a Scope to display waveforms, an SPL (Sound Pressure Level) Meter, and a Signal Generator producing sine waves, white noise and pink noise.

2. -The Signal Generator provides a sine wave output up to 20,000Hz in 1 Hz steps, along with noise generators for white and pink noise.

3. There is a screen capture facility in the Spectrum Analyser allowing you to save the spectra for future reference along with details of the FFT parameters, time and date.

4. The strongest frequency is displayed both above the peak, and optionally, in a large number display in the center of the screen.

5. Other features such as screen capture and double tap to toggle large number display still work during the freeze.

6. With an In App Purpose one can add a sine wave sweep generator functionality to the Signal Generator.

7. The sine wave frequency selected using picker wheels allows for accurate control of frequency to within 1Hz.

8. The sweep generator can sweep increasing and decreasing frequencies, and using either a linear or log sweep rate.

9. There is a screen capture facility in the Scope allowing you to save waveforms for future reference.

10. The large number display can be quickly switched on or off by double tapping the screen.

11. The SPL Meter continuously displays the sound pressure level using an A-weighting, and has resettable minimum and maximum displays also.

Top Pcmac Reviews

  • very good for the price

    By pylon (Pcmac user)

This is a fun app for geeks. Physics teachers will find it handy, especially. I wish there were some control over the FFT display - it would be nice to look more closely at narrower frequency ranges. One flaw that bothers me is the artifacts from the sine-wave generator at high frequency. Presumably due to aliasing, a low frequency tone is often produced. Young people who can actually hear signals at >12 kHz probably won't notice it.
  • Great little fft analyzer

    By Dpwe (Pcmac user)

Finally a real FFT spectrum analyzer at a fun price! This compares well to apps at ten times the price and delivers an FFT spectrum of what the mic hears with 43 Hz bin resolution, automatic labeling of the peak frequency, and a built-in sinewave generator and SPL meter! Only drawbacks: no vertical axis labels, so not really useful for fine EQ (the y-axis is logarithmic, and appears to cover around 100dB); no options to change FFT length or window shape.
  • best of the iPhone analyzers

    By nottooloud (Pcmac user)

Fires up fast, directly to the screen you want. Responsive display. The peak frequency number is really visible and doesn't move around. I use it to identify feedback frequencies while tweaking the PA during setup.
  • Slow, limited utility

    By jrb33 (Pcmac user)

All of the features you'd want are here, but bone of them are executed particularly well. The FFT looks nice, but it's not responsive, and the resolution is low. The oscilloscope looks nice, but it can't zoom out very far and it's slow. Basically useless for transient signals. Couldn't figure out how to use the trigger mechanism. There are better apps out there that do the same thing but better. Keep looking.
