  • Disappointed

    By Tundras21 (Pcmac user)

I only have the free version, and I've only played 12 games, but in those 12 times I've lost all but 2 of the matches -- and those losses weren't close by any means. I realize that dice results are randomized (like in the real world), such that one could really have such bad luck to consistently roll poorly, but when I'm not touching the physical dice myself, it feels like there's more at work than simply the arbitrary nature of dice themselves :-/. The the app players seemed to always run by the rule of "roll until you get two shotgun blasts", and that worked well; not only did they usually get the small gains (1-3 brains), but they also got the huge gains (5-8 brains) too often. I, on the other hand, tried to also observe the "roll until you get two shotgun blasts" rule and suffered for it. More times than not, I would have a single shotgun blast, think that it's safe to roll again and immediately get 2 more blasts. And then, of course, there were the lovely times of rolling well to start with 2 or 3 brains and then immediately getting a roll with 3 blasts. Now, in all fairness, if I would sit down and play many more games perhaps the win/loss ratio would begin to even out, but this heavily skewed beginning leaves me completely disinclined to attempt that stretch goal. This is the first time I've encountered an iOS game where I even began to consider the possibility of weighted dice … and consequently I probably won't be picking it up again :-(.
  • Simple idea well executed

I heard of this game for the first time when watching Geek&Sundry's TableTop with Will Wheaton and was thrilled to see they also offer a digital version for iOS devices. The game is fun to play agains the computer or, for $0.99 as in-App-Purchase, against a friend on the same device. And to all those people who feel the need to rate this game badly and throw verbal mud at the developers - really? REALLY? You complain about a game you obviously got for free because all you are doing is playing against the computer, and you still have the guts or need to give a bad rating? It is rigged because you are better when playing the real game? How the dice fall is random, it takes a lot of time to program something that works %100 ALL the time, but even the less sophisticated random generators are about 95% when it comes to randomness. And for a FREE game, heck, even for $0.99 that is a really good deal you are getting here, so stop complaining already! And again, you guys most likely paid nothing, zero, nada, zilch. Get a life, go outside, meet people, maybe work and do something valuable with your time rather than living your false feeling of entitlement. I enjoy playing the game, even though I would love to see some retina images in the near future and maybe the function to play with another player over WiFi on two devices. That would be fabulous! :)
  • Cute app

    By FleshyHeadedMonkey (Pcmac user)

We play the real dice version so I thought it would be fun to get the app, too. It plays out just like the real game so that makes it good for pass and play. The only thing missing is reaching into the cup to get the dice. The the app noises are funny at first but they get annoying quickly, so I just turn them off. But their text remarks are still kind of funny to read. I bought the full version to support the developer, and in the paid version the AI does not seem to cheat much. Sure sometimes it rolls six or seven brains with no problem, but many other times I've seen zombies get shotgun blasted when they had a ton of brains and no shotguns at that point. All in all it seems pretty fair. It's a really cute implementation of the dice game. Nice interface. Well done all the way around.
  • Needs improvement

    By GIGeneAnaya (Pcmac user)

Fun game but plagued by annoying bugs. It regularly crashes - more than all my other apps combined (and not because I play it a lot). Fortunately, it seems to have saved the game state and can often resume a game after the crash, even if a few turns are lost. Does a TERRIBLE job of reporting to GameCenter…the worst of any game I've played. While monitoring my progress up the leader board, it would often never report a win on the leader board nor update the in-game "scores" making my progress particularly slow. I won't make any judgement on the AI's ability to defy the odds with amazing regularity on its rolls. It is a great way to waste time, like when stuck in a line or in a waiting room. Nowhere nearly as much "fun" as the physical dice game with friends. The sloppy programming and lack of updates to address them leaves me reluctant to try another SJ iOS Game.
