  • Says it’s compatible with my phone, download it bad it says it isn’t.

    By drnstvns (Pcmac user)

So which is it? Why do you have a list of compatible iPhones and iPads only to tell people once they download it it’s not compatible?? I think the confusion on the users part is in the description you state which phones you need to this app an object and that you have to have a true depth camera. Fine. But then you go on to talk about scanning objects (which sounds like a different function) and how anyone on any iPad or iPhone can view them etc. So when you say “this app” won’t work without the true depth camera you’re talking about the entire app not that function. You make it seem like there are 3 things the app can do: this app, scan and share. It reads like the this app feature won’t work without true depth but the scan and share features still will. When you say this app won’t work you mean this app won’t work. Very unclear especially with the huge list of compatible devices that are, in fact, not compatible. Love wasting my time on stuff like this. You should look at your app download page sometime. Save a lot of people a lot of time.
  • Not the light, not the speed , video misleading

    By Bligh Studios (Pcmac user)

So I’ve tried about two dozen scans. Set it up on a small circular table to keep the camera at the same distance from the object. Brought in a few additional lights as well. Ran the camera around the edge of the table, going so slow as to not have it “whoops” on me. (The video by the way makes it appear you scanned the entire tractor in about 6 seconds.) After 93 seconds - yes I had a timer going- I made it all the way around the table. Started to try and get the top of the object and a whoops pops up. A RESUME would make some sense here. However, there still multiple spots where the item is blank and seems to have missed a large majority of the object. A miniature bowling pin, very mundane object wouldn’t scan at all. Timed out every time at 3 seconds. A bobble head would scan about 3/4 and then my bobble head would have 2 heads. There is no “high definition” option in the settings like one commenter posted. I even put the phone in my kids toy car and drove it around the object, smooth and slow, but yet only made it around the object one out of 8 tries. And I’m talking REAL slow and smooth. I’m not even trying to get great details, I’m just hoping to get the majority of the shape so I can export it out, and touch it up instead of having to recreate the object from scratch. I would hope to revisit this app in the future, but as of right now, it’s got too many issues.
  • Use the High Resolution option in settings

    By Ereeb (Pcmac user)

This app is what I’ve been waiting for ever since the iPhone X launched with FaceID! Make sure to enable “High resolution scanning” in settings, as it bumps up the quality noticeably. To use the point cloud data you can download the .stl or .obj file from their website and convert it to a mesh using tools like Meshlab or Blender. There are still kinks to be worked out but it sounds as if the developers will be plenty capable of sorting them out given enough time. In the meantime, this app works better than any other mobile 3D scanner I’ve tried, and outperforms paid programs such as Autodesk Recap Photo in certain situations.
  • Disregard the 2 star reviews

    By Briwil78 (Pcmac user)

Everyone here who left a two star review is complaining about only being able to use the front camera, which says a lot about those people. I guess they should be complaining to Apple for putting face id on the front camera? Whatever, works well, make sure you have a good lighting setup, and go slow. My only complaint is I can't seem to download an .STL or .obj version of my scan from the website; the only option I get is .ply. Is the scan still processing, do I need to wait longer?
