Useful but omits some phonemes
By FernHeidi (Pcmac user)
I just purchased this app. I like the fluoroscopic video of the sounds being produced. However, the number of vowels depicted are insufficient (there are about 18 vowels in English if you include the 'r'-colored vowels). They completely left out the /ษ/, as in 'caught, bought, saw, all' and substitute /ษ/ as in 'hot', which is probably due to the dialect of the woman who is modeling the phonemes. She most likely doesn't have the vowel /ษ/ in her personal repertoire, so it is just omitted. However, the vowels in 'cot' vs. 'caught' are separate phonemes in Standard American and RP English! I purchased the R-sound Combinations for an extra 99 cents which includes the diphthongs with the post-vocalic 'r', but what they call the Initial R is not the consonant, rather the post-vocalic 'r' as in 'word, turn, learn, girl, fern'. They left out the retroflexed liquid /r/ as in 'red'. Overall, this is a useful app, however it is deficient in its representation of the entire phonemic inventory of Standard English dialects.

Amazing app
By wayan yane (Pcmac user)
I really find this app very helpful. I am a PhD student majoring in Language, Literary and Technology, and the app helps me a lot with my research. I highly recommend the app for those who are English teachers and researchers focusing on English pronunciation. Thank you to the author. ๐

Immediately Asks for Money
By ZACHK1 (Pcmac user)
This may be a useful app but you can literally do NOTHING until you pay for it. Itโs so ridiculous that apps present themselves as โfreeโ and then when you open the app the first thing you get is a screen asking for you to pay. You canโt even test all the features using one phoneme unless you pay.
