1. If work experience requirements are applicable, the candidate must provide proof of having worked in the profession of medical assisting for no less than 5 years, where no more than 2 years can be as an instructor at a post-secondary school.

2. If the candidate graduated from any of these program within 4 years of taking the exam, there are no work experience requirements.

3. Finally, the candidate must pass an exam administered by the AMT unless the candidate has passed another generalist medical assistant certification exam that is accepted by the AMT.
