Just no. The previous version was a nice way to relax before bed. I just want a simple game. This does the opposite. This version is not simply this app. It has 20 different ways to play and more games and options pop up while I’m playing. There are challenges and “prizes” to be won. I paid for the old version to get rid of ads and popups. This version has so many distracting popups - it constantly tells me I earned some points, leveled up, might want to use a cheat that I might was to pay for. The game stops to show me things I don’t care about. No. I want nice, quiet, this app. I loved the option where I could play the computer against multiple computer opponents. Playing against “Zoey” is not the same, or even enjoyable. Zoey tries to teach me how to play. This version works hard to get me to play against other humans, but I really like to pick up a game and play a few turns, then go away for the rest of the day. That’s no good when playing another person. Honestly though, the worst, after each move, there is a popup screen trying to get me to start a game with yet another person. This game is annoying. I have plenty of bright, loud, complex games. The beauty of this app is that it’s a quiet and thoughtful game.
Changed my mind and starting to like it BUT...

The problem is that the set of possibilities is so overwhelming at first that it is easy to be turned off instantly. Maybe one way to solve this could be to reveal options only over time, and not present too many colorful, animated choices on the screen at all times. I have to admit the challenges are fun. Yet, I maintain that there should be settings to turn off animations to avoid annoyance and battery drain (maybe even a dark mode... games are big battery drains), and to switch to SOWPODS dictionary, especially in classic mode (a show stopper for true this app lovers, and mostly to play with international friends). If ads can be displayed, there should be an in-app purchase to turn them off, because your $4.99/month to subscribe with the guarantee that most but not all ads will be removed is just outrageous. Make the subscription cheaper and remove ALL ads with it or offer an in-app purchase to do so ($9.99 max) and you will have something there.
Excessive, pricey, but challenging

I don’t normally review apps, but this app is a bit close to my heart and was sad to see the original app post it’s eventual demise. This version has a lot of mini games that, while challenging, may rub this app purists the wrong way. If they wanted to do some variations then “official” variants you see at tournaments would have been nice. Speed this app - 5 minute games Clabbers - anagram-like version of this app Double play - play with two racks of tiles instead of one I did purchase the original EA app. However, this monthly fee seems a bit high for a word game. Personally I would make a one time purchase, probably even up to $15 for this app, but $5 a month is too high. I am sure they will get signups but they probably won’t be the quality players you would find on the original app. Another option that I wish a lot of other games would pursue: trade in-house currency for membership. Even if it were some outlandish number (like 10,000 diamonds) so that a person would have to spend hundreds of dollars to join or allow those that are dedicated to the game to earn a membership. As others have posted, the game itself is too busy for classic players. It feels like I am trying to play during a carnival. The tile upgrades are cute but purists will find it unnecessary and gaudy. Maybe have a Quiet Mode option? Fair attempt from Hasbro, Scopely and group. We will see how it progresses.
Awful in every way

The user interface in this game is horrendous. IF you can get past the annoying adds, juvenile gem collection, constant bombardment of pop ups trying to sell you cheats, the game trying to collect your contact list, nag boxes just about every play, and a visually cluttered and irritating platform.. you might be able to see something remotely resembling this app... until you make a play and the circus starts over again. The EA game that this sh-t show is supposed to replace had clean lines, a simple interface, little to no distractions, an add-free version, and looked/played like the original this app board. I’m sticking with EA this app intil it’s gone this summer.. in the mean time, IF scopely decides to produce an add free, app that simply plays this app according to the original board game rules, and has a user interface that looks like it was designed for someone over 10 years old with more than half a brain... I’d actually pay for that... end of rant ... I’m off to find an alternative...
