  • Rating for game locking, not game play

    By docjob (Pcmac user)

I am frustrated by the game going into an endless loop in the lost anchorage removing the cortex quest. Thus the 2 star rating. I can keep playing the game. This should be at least a 4 star game for most of the reasons mentioned by others. It is beautiful and the writiing is excellent. I love the way the party can often stop a crisis by talking or negotiating rather than just hack and slash. It is tricky to get into as there first parts of the game can be confusing. As another reviewer mentioned, there are on line resources that are worth checking to ease the start up frustrations. The NPCs are unique, weird and interesting personalities.. The creativity in this game is stunning. The mystery of who you are really adds an overall larger quest feeling to the game. Actually, I feel it is well worth playing, if it only wouldn’t lock...
  • Crashes too frequently.

    By alabamaninja (Pcmac user)

I think it would be a nice game, it just crashes to desktop or hangs every few minutes, even on reduced graphics settings. If it runs for you, you’ll probably enjoy it….
  • Torment of Frustration

    By outoftheballpark (Pcmac user)

There are no explanations how to use this software. There is no game manual, no rule book, no tutorials. All instructions on using the games software & how to play this game are given during game play with dialog boxes. These dialog boxes are misnamed as tutorials. There are no tutorials. I can’t find any explanation of game controls. I saw nothing that helped from in-game dialog boxes. There is a listing of “Controls" and “Screens. “ But there are no explanations for anything in these lists. Even in game there are no explanations for things like the following: What does pressing [Tab] - Highlight do? What does the term, “Highlight” mean in this software? Pressing [P] for Pause does nothing. Pressing [F5] Quicksave does nothing. What does pressing [F9] for Quickload do? What does pressing [Space] - End Turn do? What does, “End Turn” mean? What does [Return] - Submit do? I don’t know how to pause the game. These things are not explained. I don’t know how to restart the game where I left off. So every time I try to play it again I have to go through the long boring intro. I tried pressing [F9] at different times to no avail. So I cannot play the game because I cannot learn how to use the software. And getting dialog windows that clutter up the game experience does not help with using the game software. Although you’re suppose to be able to turn off these in-game dialog windows. If you don’t already know how to use this software or play this game you have to find directions somewhere outside the game. I have not been able to find explanations of the game mechanics elsewhere. It appears developers of this game decided to save time and money by not including instructions on the use of the game’s software. It has been a frustrating waste of time and money for me. Way too expensive for nothing but: pretty pictures, and pretty music, and that includes at 50% off.
  • Got it first on XB1...

…which works just fine, but the intereface is really more natural with a keyboard and trackpad. Honestly, it’s great. Simple enough to immediately be 2nd nature, but deep enough to compliment the INCREDIBLE writing. This morning i caught myself thinking about the prose in this game while reading Nabokov. I can’t speak personally to whatever flaws and faults may have been present in ver. 1.0 and 1.0.1, but i haven’t encountered any notable problems with 1.0.2. I’ll spare you the victorian secrets of my laptop’s hardware, but it’s really nothing special. I can’t imagine anyone with a half decent rig having any problems with this app, unless there’s some specific widget/application interactions that i’m spared by typically avoiding gaming off-console. I have a total of two games on my computers, this and Pillars, which apparently both use the same engine. I have over 350 XB1 games, 200+ on PS3, and 1000’s across several other consoles, so i love gaming in the extreme, i just think computer gaming is elitist and divisive. It’s skiiing to console gaming’s soccer. Thousands in hardware and an inaccessible mountain vs a shirt wrapped in tape and a field. Games are meant to unite cross-culture and ethos. No judgments, it’s just how i feel. I only mention this to make a point about how freaking good the writing is in this app. Ethics aside, I’d kick yr grandma to play it. 10 of 10, would reach for my dictionary again.
