Game Features and Description

1. The computer game was originally created by Brodie Lockard in 1981 and named Mah-Jongg after the game that uses the same tiles for play.

2. A version of this game was also included in the Microsoft Entertainment Pack for Windows 3.x in 1990 and went by the name Taipei.

3. Premium editions of the Windows Vista operating system and Windows 7 include a version of the game known as Mahjong Titans.

4. Exposed pairs of identical tiles (Flower and Seasons tiles in the same group being considered identical) are removed from the layout one at a time, gradually exposing the lower layers to play.

5. Mahjong solitaire is a solitaire matching game that uses a set of Mahjong tiles rather than cards.

6. So why should you give our version a try? We tried to recreate all the fun of original game with 60 different layouts in a tiny download package.

7. The aim of the game is to clear the layout by pairing up all the tiles.

8. The game is finished when either the layout is empty, or there are no exposed pairs remaining.

9. As any other successful game, millions of clones have been created on all possible platforms.

10. However, it was not until Activision released Shanghai in 1986 for the Macintosh and Apple IIgs that the game gathered momentum.

11. Lockard claims that it was based on a centuries-old Chinese game called "the Turtle".

  • It plays ok but one problem...

    By decision_time (Pcmac user)

After clearing a board, the score then the menu comes up. But where's the PLAY or NEXT button? I clicked the SETTINGS ICON in the right top corner, and I got the next game. Really? Also, there's no RESTART. It's free, yeah, but there's better. I deleted it.

  • Freezes iPhone X

Cannot get out of program in iPhone X. Disabled the up-swipe gesture to go to the menu. MAJOR BUG!!!!
  • Seems to be fixed

    By She'sUpToSomething (Pcmac user)

I haven't played long enough to judge the scoring problem, but I assume it's fixed since the hint and undo are working. This is a very busy interface. I appreciate the large characters, but it would be better if there were _some_ "white space" (in this case, beige) around the characters. The tiles could be a smidgen larger and the characters minimally smaller without sacrificing readability. As it is, it's overwhelming reading the packed board. Why would anyone try to play this on an iPhone? Instant headache, I'm sure!
