What is Rebirth of Fortune?

"Rebirth of Fortune" is a tactical role-playing game that follows the combat mode of popular Strategy RPGs like "Tactics Ogre" and "Final Fantasy Tactics." The game involves turn-based, strategic combat on various terrains, where up to eight of your units battle hoards of mercenaries. The game requires a divisive strategy to beat each of the 200 stages and various enemy AIs. The goal of the game is to upgrade and customize your own units to compete in a chess-like strategy game of position and power.

Game Features and Description

1. You need a proper strategy according to the terrain and the attributes of your units because each unit has its own field of movement, range and method of attack, and damage value.

2. “Rebirth of Fortune” is a tactical role-playing game borrowing the combat mode made famous by such Strategy RPGs as “Tactics Ogre” and “Final Fantasy Tactics.”Up to eight of your units battle hoards of mercenaries in turn-based, strategic combat on various terrains.

4. You can move the unit to attack the enemy within the unit's individual range of attack.

5. Each unit has a unique special ability according to its class and orbs available.

6. If you eradicate the enemy you will be rewarded, and using the rewards fund you can upgrade your units and prepare for greater combat.

7. Also, the most favorable attack positions are when you are standing beside or behind the enemy unit.

8. The unit receives different damage values according to the direction it faces when attacked.

  • Just OK but it is free...

    By JC Hedger (Pcmac user)

This game is reminiscent of Final Fantasy Tactics but not nearly as challenging. There is a decent variety of units to unlock but the AI is pretty poor. I have played through all 200 levels and only recall one level (100) that was truly difficult. I lost maybe 12-15 times total on all the other levels and did not need to upgrade my units after level 125 or so. This says to me that the AI is far too weak and that to complete the game is basically just a grind. But it's free, it's 200 levels, and the animation is pretty good. So, 4 stars despite the caveats given above.
  • Fun Tactics Game

    By A.Glasser (Pcmac user)

I love this game. Beautiful graphics, varying maps, decent AI that needs some strategy to best. However, I have a few complaints that justify the 4/5 rating. > No enemy unit information. Why can't we tap an enemy to see their health? > No undo. Why can't we move a unit, see that they aren't in range of an enemy unit, then undo and move in range? > Enemy units are unplayable. The units you provide are great, but I would still like the ability to put a Gargoyle on my team. "Get all units to level 50 to unlock the next tier of playable units." All in all, this is a fun game. Don't get me wrong with my complaints - the game is definitely playable and extremely fun. I am simply comparing the mechanics of this game to others such as FFT and Tactics Ogre.
  • It's over!

    By keke4243 (Pcmac user)

Solid game. Played to level 100 to discover whichever characters you choose to take on said level, the game matches those characters (levels and stats too) and pits you against over five times as many enemies. 8 vs nearly 50 equally matched clone enemies?! No thanx!
  • Good idea, needs some tweaks

    By fishmystery (Pcmac user)

I've only played through a few levels, and it definitely feels like a Tactics game. The graphics are solid, the music is OK but gets repetitive very quickly. My major complaint is that the controls are annoying. The screen centers on the selected unit, so if you want to tell it to move a ways away or want to know exactly what's around the destination, you need to pan the screen. Unfortunately, panning the screen also triggers the unit to move, so there have been a lot of times my unto ends up out of place. This wouldn't be so bad except I can't see any way to undo a move, which means my unit is stuck out of position. The battle system of touching the screen while a circle shrinks (and damage increases as the circle gets smaller) is interesting - I'm very good at missing, but maybe I just need more practice. I would like to see an option for random damage for people who just can't master it. Similarly, I don't think the time limitation per turn makes sense in single player mode. The game could use more in-game documentation, as there is almost none. Some more things I would like to see are level previews before you pick units, descriptions of what upgrades will change, and better translations. A storyline would be great, but a) for the price I paid (free), I'm not expecting a story, and b) would rather have no story than a bad one.
