  • Helpful with some major flaws

    By RRHowell (Pcmac user)

This review applies to the Hindi version I enjoy this program and it has been helpful to me. Specifically the version that I started with was amazingly helpful in getting me comfortable with reading while words in Devanagari script and with breaking down words into their component letters. Earlier this year much of what was so helpful went away. Games that used to make you work to spell a word letter by letter now just require you to swipe the whole word or at most two parts of a word down to the bottom. While this gives a review of the sound of the word, encouraging letter by letter spelling was SO much more useful. A female voice teaches the verbs by reading the masculine version of a present tense sentence. “I am counting” for example. You just have to adjust , and this is not a huge flaw as long as no one doesn’t the app grammar too. Much more importantly, there are some mistaken words. The word for correct is taught as the direction right. The word for 100,000 is taught as million. It is exceedingly annoying to be forced to drill an error months after I reported it and to wonder what other mistakes I am learning that I haven’t caught. This program taught me to sound out Devanagari well, for which I am so grateful. I mourn the fact that much of that functionality disappeared with the upgrade early this year.
  • Fix Romanization

    By oval626 (Pcmac user)

I really like the app, I enjoy practicing an hammering down my vocabulary. This with a grammar book is an excellent way to the app Hindi, especially since this app offers excellent pronunciations of words - something you obviously can’t get with a book. However, the romanization of the script in this app is really bad. Anedaa(Egg/अंडा)? That does not follow the standards of the International Phonetic Alphabet, which honestly does not have much difficult standards to follow. Egg should be romanized to andaa.
  • It’s okay

    By Class critic (Pcmac user)

The app is pretty good so far. Two things- the 5 minute time limit thing doesn’t let me the app. I can the app bread, knife, breakfast, fish, soup and mushroom. Then I have to go and forget it all. I need more time to do this. Don’t give me a limit to how long I can the app. Also, you’re throwing all these words at me. Teach me the letters please! Just the little squiggles under words won’t teach me written words. Also, the phonetic pronunciations written are pretty inaccurate. Otherwise the app is pretty cute.
  • English words in Hindi letters

    By GoSrilanka (Pcmac user)

I love the concept of this app but their vocabulary list for intermediate learners is pathetic. The majority of words I’ve been given so far are English words in Hindi script. Such words include: bakery, department store, confectionary store (which is wrong...it should be sweet shop), toaster, blender (actually called a mixer or grinder by my Hindi speaking friends) just to name a few. They also give an entire sentence as the word for mixing bowl which is ridiculous. It’s just a bada katora, literally big bowl.
