I have tried a few of these programs and found this one to work the best. I am a graduate student and use this to read .pdfs at double speed to help me push through a great volume of reading more quickly. What is useful about this app, compared to simply using the Apple Accesibility the app function, is the playback back controlls which allow me to easily pause, go back to a section, or skip ahead. Also, when encountering issues with an earlier version, I found the developer helpful and responsive in trying to work through issues (which have been corrected in the most recent version).

this app does almost everything I need it to do. The voices and voice controls are great. I use it primarily as a proofreading tool for documents created in Word and similar programs. I wish I could highlight a passage in Word, right click to a Service or hit a key combination, then have the passage read aloud in a this app window. The extra steps of having to switch programs and import my text into SC seems to disrupt my workflow. Overall a very nice app, though.

Best the app app I've found. I use this app as a read-along to Study for Certification exams in my field. It reads well. I Upgraded my Macbook Pro voices, and use Tom, a little smoother voice than default, Alex. I do have a problem pausing. When I pause, the app waits a couple of seconds, then starts again. Wish Pause would stay paused. Other than that little thing, I'd rate it as a '5'.

This is one of my favorite apps and without a question lives fornt and center on my iMac and Macbook Pro dock. I also have the iPhone app and I love it! Something about the simplicity and power of this app makes it so awesome! I'm low vision, and my eyes go crazy after lon period of reading, so an app like this is just so amazing.
